Over 2,000 Cherepovets Residents Register Garages Under Amnesty

The garage amnesty law came into force on September 1, 2021. Since then, 1,612 garages and 2,096 land plots have been transferred to ownership in Cherepovets. Currently, about 400 more residents are registering their rights to garages and land.
«Since the adoption of the garage amnesty, the list of required documents has not changed. There are cases of refusal to register rights. The reasons are the lack of documents confirming the right to the garage, and discrepancies in the documents. After eliminating the grounds for refusal, a citizen can reapply for registration of rights. The number of applications for registration of rights under the garage amnesty has increased significantly in 2025 and 2026. As of July 20, the law extending the garage amnesty until September 1, 2031 has not been adopted,» the City Property Management Committee noted.
The simplified procedure applies only to single-story permanent garages built before the end of 2004. Metal garages, underground parking lots in residential buildings, and attached garages cannot be registered under the garage amnesty.
Consultations on registration issues are held every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 3:00 PM. Reception is at 4a Stroiteley Street, office No. 418.
In total, there are about ten thousand garages in Cherepovets.
