Novokuznetsk's only maternity hospital understaffed

Federal officials have finally announced the causes of the children«s deaths
Maternity hospitals in Novokuznetsk have been operating with staff shortages. However, the maternity and childhood service has the resources to assist all incoming mothers and newborns, said the Kuzbass Ministry of Health on Wednesday, January 21, in response to a request from the editorial office of NGS42.RU.
According to data provided by the ministry, Perinatal Center No. 1, where children died en masse in January, was short 17% of the required number of doctors and 17.9% of mid-level medical staff.
Currently, the medical center on Sechenov Street is closed, and all patients are being admitted to the only remaining maternity hospital, No. 2. It is also not fully staffed: 78.9% for doctors and 91.1% for mid-level medical specialists.
«The maternity and childhood service of Kuzbass has the necessary resources to provide all required types of medical care to mothers and newborns in full,» write Ministry of Health employees in the response.
During the three-month closure of Maternity Hospital No. 1 by decision of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), pregnant women, women in labor, and infants are being directed to other institutions in the region. As the press service indicates, full routing is ensured.
As it became known to the editorial office of NGS42.RU, last week a federal commission investigating the causes of death of nine newborns left the center on Sechenov Street without reporting its results. A few hours after our publication, the State Duma told what conclusions specialists made about the hospital«s work and why the infants died.
All about the tragedy in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital is gathered in a separate story.
