The mother of a deceased participant in the special military operation and a recipient of the Order of Courage from the Volgograd region won 750,000 rubles (approximately $7,500 at current rates) for a memorial complex that was not installed on her son«s grave within the agreed timeframe. As clarified by the prosecutor»s office, which represented her in court, the final penalty included not only the return of a 150,000-ruble (about $1,500) advance payment but also compensation for moral damages.

According to the press service of the Volgograd Region Prosecutor«s Office, the applicant ordered the monument from the funeral agency »Chyorny Tyulpan« (»Black Tulip«) from individual entrepreneur Sobolevskaya in Mikhaylovka back in September 2024. At that time, she transferred a 150,000-ruble advance, and the deadline was set for the end of November.

«However, to date, the businesswoman has not fulfilled her obligations and has not returned the funds to the applicant,» the department reported.

The lawsuit was filed in October 2025, and after three hearings, the Mikhaylovsky District Court granted the claim, issuing a default judgment.

A V1.RU correspondent tried to call the funeral agency listed in the prosecutor«s office data. On the first call, he was told he had »dialed the wrong number,« and on the second, he was advised to find out the details from the applicant before the call was dropped.

Incidentally, not long ago we covered a similar case from Kotelnikovo: there, the victim had ordered a granite monument for her deceased brother for 600,000 rubles under a contract stipulating installation by Easter. But the monument never appeared on her brother«s grave, and her money was not returned.
