Moscow court to hear appeal against arrest of Volgograd city hall legal head

The Moscow City Court will consider an appeal by lawyers against the arrest of Darya Kazankova, head of the legal department of the Volgograd administration, on the afternoon of January 21. The official was detained in mid-December last year along with a former head — the chairman of the regional committee for natural resources, forestry, and ecology.

Recall that information about Darya Kazankova«s detention appeared on the afternoon of December 17 in an anonymous Telegram channel »Volgograd Rumors«. The authors link this, among other things, to the arrival last week of employees of the Russian General Prosecutor»s Office.

According to people who know Kazankova well, she never gave the impression of a person prone to adventures or corrupt schemes. A strict lawyer, a pedant, whose documents were always in perfect order. That is why the detention came as a surprise even for those who have long been observing the backroom life of the city hall, the authors report. According to one version, the case may be related to the ongoing inspection by the General Prosecutor«s Office. Entrepreneurs and other interested parties, during communication with high-ranking employees of the supervisory authority, began actively sharing information — checks on these facts are in full swing.

On December 18, on the website of the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow, a case appeared on the election of a preventive measure in the form of detention for a full namesake of Darya Kazankova. Simultaneously, information appeared there about the arrest of the chairman of the Regional Committee for Nature, Alexei Sivokoza, and his former deputy Irina Panina. The court granted the investigation«s petitions, while classifying the information on the cases.

On December 23, information appeared about the appeal of the preventive measure by all three detained individuals, but the appeal date appeared only for Darya Kazankova. Information on the appeals of the other individuals in the case was not available on the Moscow City Court website at the time of publication.
