Mizulina Slams Blogger Over Mamayev Kurgan Stunt
The controversy over the social experiment continues.
Yekaterina Mizulina has sharply criticized a blogger who threw a 5,000-ruble banknote into the pool of the military memorial on Mamayev Kurgan and then filmed people trying to retrieve it. The prank, staged by Svyatoslav Kovalenko in Volgograd, drew an extremely negative reaction from the head of the Safe Internet League.
As reported earlier, the controversial video surfaced online last week. In it, a man follows the tradition of tossing coins into the water before the sculpture «Stand to the Death,» but instead of small change, he throws a high-denomination banknote. After a while, visitors spot the money and try to fish it out. One man even jumps right into the pool, emerging with a smile and cash in hand.
The clip quickly went viral. Many condemned not only the blogger but also those who tried to grab the money. Police and later the Investigative Committee launched checks under an article on the rehabilitation of Nazism. Now Yekaterina Mizulina has joined the public outcry.
— I stand with the city«s residents. This is no place for pranks. It»s clear the blogger has no doubt that he«s doing anything wrong, thinking only of likes and views.
