The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow fined a man who smashed the memorial plaque of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, installed on her house. Alexander Filipov was fined 1,000 rubles (about $11 at current rates) under the article on petty hooliganism (Part 1, Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). This was reported by the press service of the Moscow courts of general jurisdiction.

Recall that on January 18, former municipal deputy of the Zyuzino district Alexander Zamyatin drew attention to the fact that the plaque was smashed. Representatives of the editorial office of «Novaya Gazeta», where the journalist worked for seven years, called the incident vandalism. The publication«s editorial board and Politkovskaya»s relatives demanded that a criminal case be opened.

Flowers are regularly left at the memorial plaque. The most appear on Politkovskaya«s birthday (August 30) and every anniversary of her death.
