Kirov woman's card stolen via teen daughter

A woman born in 1987 from Kirov filed a complaint with the Russian Interior Ministry«s department for Kirov about the remote theft of 98,000 rubles ($1,200 at current exchange rates) from her bank account. Police established that the woman»s 13-year-old daughter was using an online dating service where she shared her geolocation. Soon, a stranger contacted her via a messenger app, claiming to be a law enforcement officer. He stated that the coordinates had fallen into the hands of terrorists and that the mother faced criminal liability for high treason. Frightened, the schoolgirl agreed to help to avoid punishment. Following the scammer«s instructions, she took her mother»s phone and relayed the codes from text messages.
As a result, unknown individuals twice withdrew money from the Kirov woman«s credit card. The Investigation Department of the Russian Interior Ministry»s department for Kirov has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 158 of the Russian Criminal Code. The identities of the suspects are currently being established. The police remind citizens to exercise caution in online communication. They advise not to disclose personal data or share confirmation codes from SMS or push notifications from banks and government services. Actual agency employees never request such actions.
