Hotel, IT Cluster, and Sports Center: The New Murmansk University Campus

On January 16, a meeting of the Murmansk Region«s architectural and urban planning council was held in Murmansk under the leadership of Governor Andrei Chibis. The central topic of the agenda was the discussion of the concept for the new campus of the Murmansk Arctic University.

The university campus project was presented as strategically important for the development of science and education in the Arctic zone. According to the presented concept, next to the building of the Marine Academy, a high-rise hotel-dormitory for students is planned.
The project also provides for the creation of a physical culture and health complex with a «phygital» center (combining physical and digital activities) and a Winter Sports Center. A landscaped green zone will appear between the new university complex and the Governor«s Lyceum.
Along Kirov Avenue, a food court and summer recreation areas are planned. Outdated buildings not included in the project visualization may in the future be replaced by a scientific and educational center, a congress and exhibition complex, and an interdisciplinary IT cluster.
According to Governor Andrei Chibis, the new campus should become a modern space for learning, research, and communication, focused on the future of the Arctic and the training of in-demand specialists for the region and the country.
