Hooliganism with Weapon Verdict Upheld

In the Novgorod Region, a verdict against 36-year-old Yulia Zankina from Veliky Novgorod has entered into legal force. She was found guilty of hooliganism with the threat of violence and the use of weapons (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The decision was made by the Shimsky District Court in May 2026.

The crime occurred in August 2024. While under the influence of alcohol on Tsentralnaya and Shelonskaya streets in the village of Krasny Dvor, Shimsky District, Zankina believed that her husband had previously been in conflict with three local residents. Seeking to intimidate them, she fired several shots from a traumatic pistol into the air and toward these people.

In addition, on Tsentralnaya Street, the woman aimed the weapon at a random passerby who was not involved in the conflict.

The defendant partially admitted guilt. The court of first instance imposed a fine of 250,000 rubles (approximately $2,800 at current exchange rates). The convicted woman«s defense lawyer appealed the verdict, but a representative of the Novgorod Region Prosecutor»s Office insisted on its legality.

The appeal was considered by the Judicial Chamber for Criminal Cases of the Novgorod Regional Court. Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the chamber dismissed the appeal and left the verdict unchanged. The punishment has entered into legal force.
