Abnormal cold has forced the administration of the park «Energia RMK» (RMK Energy) to suspend the operation of two popular venues from January 21.

The giant ice slide, whose height is comparable to a nine-story building, is not operated at temperatures below -18 degrees Celsius (0°F) and in strong wind conditions. The skating rink «Energia Lda» (Ice Energy) is also closed.

«From January 21, the operation of these venues has been suspended until Friday, January 23. The decision to open on Saturday, January 24, will be made based on the weather forecast for January 23,» said the press service of the slide. «The ice »adventure town«, fairy tale forest, and the »RMK Extreme« platform are operating as usual.»

The attraction officially started operating on December 28 and instantly gained popularity.

During the New Year holidays, long queues regularly gathered at its foot.

Among the first to try the slide were stars of the TV channel TNT.

Also not working from January 21 to 23 is the skating rink on 1905 Square in Yekaterinburg.

«Meteorologists are again promising severe frosts; in such weather, the ice becomes too fragile and requires long recovery. We are taking care of the ice, the equipment, and you,» explained the rink«s social media.

For guests who purchased tickets for the closure days, the following rules apply:

  • Electronic tickets are subject to refund or exchange online. Detailed instructions are in the order confirmation email. You can also contact the rink administrator @katok1905_admin.
  • Paper tickets can be refunded or exchanged at the ticket office, starting from January 24.

This is not the first suspension of the giant slide«s operation this season. Earlier, from January 13 to 15, the attraction also did not work due to severe frosts.

In Sverdlovsk Oblast, meteorologists forecast further cooling, with thermometer readings possibly dropping to -42 degrees Celsius (-44°F).
