Giant slide and ice rink close in Yekaterinburg due to cold

Yekaterinburg residents will be left without entertainment due to the frost — the giant slide in the Energia RMK park is suspending operation during the cold spell. Its height is comparable to a nine-story building.
The fact is that the attraction does not operate at temperatures below -18°C (0°F) and in strong winds. The Energia Lda (Ice Energy) ice rink will also be closed.
“From January 21, the work of these venues is suspended until Friday, January 23. The decision to open on Saturday, January 24, will be made based on the weather forecast for January 23,” the slide«s press service said. “The ice ‘adventure town,’ fairy-tale forest, and ‘RMK Extreme’ venue are operating as usual.”
The officially nine-story slide began operating on December 28. We tested it in a live broadcast. During all the holidays, huge lines formed at the slide.
The first to try the attraction were stars of TNT (a Russian TV channel). More details about all activities and prices were told in this material.
The ice rink on 1905 Square will also temporarily close — from January 21 to 23 inclusive, the venue will not operate.
“Forecasters are again promising severe frosts; in such weather, the ice becomes too brittle and requires long restoration. We are taking care of both the ice, the equipment, and you,” the ice rink«s social media accounts said.
If you have already purchased tickets for these days:
- electronic tickets can be refunded or exchanged online. Refund information is in the order confirmation email. You can also contact the ice rink administrator — @katok1905_admin;
- paper tickets can be refunded or exchanged at the box office starting January 24.
The giant slide is closing not for the first time. Due to severe frosts, the venue did not operate from January 13 to 15.
Meanwhile, in Sverdlovsk Oblast, a cold snap to -42°C (-44°F) is forecast.
