Residents of St. Petersburg«s Kirovsky District complained about dirty water from their taps in early February. The Energy Committee linked this to work on the heating network, into which air had entered.
Complaints came from residents, including those from Novatorov Boulevard and Leni Golikova Street. They noted gray and brown water with an unpleasant odor.
The committee clarified that high-quality coolant is supplied from Thermal Power Plant No. 15 (TETs-15), but air entered the system due to previously conducted repair work.
«The situation with the appearance of dirty water in Kirovsky District is related to prior work on the heating network. From TETs-15, which supplies this network, high-quality coolant is delivered, but as a result of earlier repair work, air entered the system,» the Energy Committee explained.
Specialists have already eliminated air pockets from the main lines. If they had not done so, the problem would have affected more homes.
If poor-quality water is still flowing from the taps, management companies should organize flushing of in-building systems.
The committee added that oxygen entering the network oxidizes metal, causing the water to turn black.
«A qualitative improvement of water will occur after the air is removed from the system, which usually takes a certain amount of time and requires management companies to flush the in-building networks,» the committee concluded.
At the end of January, residents of Kirovsky District had already faced problems: an accident at TETs-15 left them without heat.
