A small patient from Cherepovets was admitted to the Vologda Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital with severe breathing difficulties. The child, only a year and a half old, required urgent medical attention. Several specialists were involved in the examination: a pediatrician, a surgeon, a radiologist, an anesthesiologist, and an endoscopist. Doctors suspected a foreign body in the airways.

According to the parents, the boy had put a piece of mango in his mouth shortly before his condition worsened. He then had a severe choking attack, coughing and characteristic wheezing sounds on inhalation and exhalation. A chest X-ray was performed to confirm the diagnosis. Then, under general anesthesia, a bronchoscopy was performed.

Head of the Endoscopy Department Igor Bezugly said: «We performed a chest X-ray. Under anesthesia, a bronchoscopy was done. We found fruit peel in the right main bronchus. The foreign body was removed. Apparently, the child inhaled the peel. Everything went without complications.» After the successful operation, the patient was discharged. A pulmonologist will monitor his health. The regional Ministry of Health reported the case on February 5, 2026.
