Dmitry Podnozov, Artistic Director of Osobnyak Theater, Dies
On 21 July, St. Petersburg’s Osobnyak Theater announced the death of its artistic director and actor, Dmitry Podnozov. He was 64.
«Yesterday Dmitry Podnozov passed away. <...> We all know he was an outstanding actor. But he was also a truly great person. A person you could always ask for help, a person you could lean on. A person who led the theater and all of us along with him to the very end,» the collective said in a statement.
The theater said that the actor had been seriously ill for the past six months. «It was a very difficult path, but he held on and remained strong until the very end,» the Osobnyak Theater noted.
The date and time of the farewell ceremony will be announced later.
Dmitry Podnozov was born in Leningrad in 1961. His father worked in the criminal investigation department, and his mother was a medical worker. After finishing school, he entered the Leningrad Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography (now the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, RGISI), where he studied in the workshop of People’s Artist of the USSR Ruben Agamirzyan.
In 1989, together with actors Tamara Krekhno and Igor Larin, Podnozov founded the St. Petersburg Drama Theater Osobnyak.
During his film career, he appeared in more than 200 films and TV series. He played his first role in 1987 in the adaptation of Sergei Vysotsky’s novella Sreda obitaniya (Habitat). Among his other works are Major, Selfie, Wings of Empire, Secrets of Investigation, Sea Devils and many others.
