Cyber Fraud Hotline Launched in Southern Urals
In the Chelyabinsk region, IT crime registration decreased by 28%, but losses still exceed 1 billion rubles (approximately $11 million). A hotline, *1593, has been launched to assist residents.

According to the regional prosecutor«s office, a decrease in cybercrime has been recorded in the Chelyabinsk region. Registration of IT crimes fell by 28%, and the number of thefts and frauds decreased by 23.9%. However, despite the positive trend, the total losses from criminals from January to June decreased by only 6% and still exceed 1 billion rubles (approximately $11 million).
To combat fraudsters, a hotline has been launched in the region, created by the Center for Public Monitoring and Projects. You can call daily from 9:00 to 18:00 at the short number *1593. The call is free.
Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler initiated a program aimed at reducing the number of cybercrimes. In January, the head of the region emphasized the importance of this work: «On the one hand, systematic prevention work is yielding results; on the other hand, criminals are finding new approaches to committing crimes. Vulnerable categories are elderly people, participants of the Special Military Operation (SVO), and, what is especially cynical, their families. I believe that attention to this area of work should not be reduced.»
Sociologists from the Center for Public Monitoring conducted a survey among residents of the region. It turned out that 76.3% of Southern Urals residents have encountered telephone fraudsters.
