Court Dismisses Store Theft Case

In February 2026, two defendants jointly planned to steal goods from a store in a shopping center. They hid the stolen items in an empty stroller while the wife of one of them walked around the mall with the child. After leaving the checkout area, they were detained by private security company employees.

The defendants fully admitted guilt, voluntarily wrote a confession, actively cooperated with the investigation, and returned the stolen goods. They also apologized to the victim’s representative, which was accepted.

The state prosecutor insisted on a real punishment to prevent new crimes. However, the courts of first instance and appeal, considering active repentance and post-crime conduct, dismissed the case. The appeal was left unsatisfied. The decision reflects the principle of humanism: the law is strict, but gives a chance to reform. The goal of justice is not only punishment, but also providing an opportunity to realize the mistake, make amends, and return to a law-abiding life.
