An unusual wedding took place in Anhui province in central China. Twin brothers surnamed Sun married twin sisters surnamed Shan, and both newlyweds had uncles who are also twins. A photo featuring four pairs of twins went viral on social media in January.
It turned out that both families discovered that their uncles were twins only on the wedding day. All participants are from Fuyang city. The meeting between the Shan sisters and Sun brothers occurred in 2022 thanks to a matchmaker.
The older sister shared that initially, she and her sister thought they were too young for serious relationships, but they couldn«t resist the brothers» persistent courtship. According to her, her husband«s parents often confuse her with her younger sister, and her own parents mix up the brothers. However, the spouses themselves rarely make mistakes, as the years spent together have allowed them to learn each other»s facial features and personalities well.
In China, there are places with an abnormally high frequency of twin births. For example, in Baimu village in Meishan city in southwestern Sichuan province, at least 33 pairs of twins have been born over the past few decades. Local residents call it the «Twin Village» and attribute this phenomenon to fertile soil and special water sources, although there is no scientific confirmation for such explanations.
