At the chess and checkers center on Stalevarov Street, 42 in Cherepovets, a competition for veterans has started. The tournament features 34 chess players from Cherepovets, Vologda, and Arkhangelsk.

President of the Cherepovets City Chess Federation Dmitry Fedosov said the competition is held under the grant project «Chess Longevity». «Twenty experienced chess players and 14 beginners who started training in April are taking part. The participants are divided into six age groups, with three winners selected in each,» noted Dmitry Fedosov.

The chess players were greeted at the opening by Deputy of the Legislative Assembly Dmitry Danilichev. «It is very gratifying that chess is gaining popularity and that new participants are joining the tournament. I wish all athletes good luck, healthy competition, and victory,» stated Dmitry Danilichev.
