Chelyabinsk Teenager Arrested for Attempted Terrorist Attack

The Investigative Committee for the Chelyabinsk Region has opened a criminal case against a 17-year-old local resident. He is accused under Part 3 of Article 30 and Part 1 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code — attempted commission of a terrorist act.
According to investigators, on the night of July 14–15, 2026, the teenager was on the territory of the Separate Battalion of Guard and Escort of Suspects and Accused of the Internal Affairs Directorate for Chelyabinsk. He poured a flammable liquid on a service vehicle and attempted to set it on fire.
He was unable to complete the plan — the young man«s actions were stopped by officers of the same battalion. The FSB Directorate for the Chelyabinsk Region is providing operational support for the case.
The suspect has been formally charged, and at the investigator«s request, the court has ordered pretrial detention. Investigative actions are currently underway to gather and secure evidence.
The Investigative Committee reminded that crimes of a terrorist and sabotage nature carry penalties up to life imprisonment. Citizens were urged to remain vigilant and not give in to provocations. It was also noted that, under Article 31 of the Russian Criminal Code, voluntary renunciation of participation in terrorist activities exempts from criminal liability.
