For the first time since 2019, Voronezh plans to hold a military-historical reconstruction of the battle for the city in 1943. Mayor Sergei Petrin announced this.
The «Battle for Voronezh» will be reenacted at 11:00 on Sunday, January 25, on the third stage of Petrovskaya Embankment. It aims to recreate the Red Army«s offensive from the Shilovsky and Chizhovsky bridgeheads in January 1943, which led to the liberation of the city.
More than 200 people from various Russian cities will participate in the reconstruction, along with 12 units of military equipment: Katyushas, «Sorokopyatki» (45-mm anti-tank guns), T-34 and T-70 tanks. The entire event will be broadcast on a special screen. Additionally, spectators will be able to see a field military registration office and a Red Army soldiers« camp, a communications hub, a medical frontline sorting center, and a military cinema. Voronezh residents will have the opportunity to attend lectures on weapons from the Great Patriotic War, visit a weapons workshop, and have lunch at a field kitchen.
«Since frost is forecast for January 25, I ask Voronezh residents and city guests planning to attend the reconstruction to dress warmer. On our part, we will organize heating points, medical duty, and buses,» explained Sergei Petrin.
Previously, the battle reconstruction was held annually in Voronezh, but the tradition was interrupted in 2020. Initially, the event was canceled due to COVID restrictions, later for security reasons.
