Authorities keep kindergarten in Chistoye village open after appeal

The only kindergarten in the village of Chistoye, Chkalovsky District, Nizhny Novgorod Region, will continue to operate. The district administration considered the matter in mid-January and decided not to close the institution.
«An analysis of the dynamics of the preschool-age population in this settlement shows that there are no grounds for closing the kindergarten. The institution will continue to operate in the new academic year in its current status,» the department stated.
This response came following a video appeal by a mother of many children and blogger named Ksenia, who asked to preserve the preschool institution. According to her, the kindergarten is attended by ten children aged two to five, and if it were closed, they would have to travel by bus to a neighboring village. The woman«s appeal received a wide public response thanks to her subscribers and quickly reached the authorities.
Ksenia described the difficult situation in the village: «We already have nothing in the village. There»s no gas, but people continue to live here. The school was closed — children travel 15 kilometers (about 9.3 miles) by bus to study in a neighboring village. They recently closed the pharmacy, and that«s no longer a matter of convenience but of survival. And now they want to take away the last thing that keeps young families here — the kindergarten.»
