Accountant Sentenced for Embezzling 6 Million Rubles

The Kalininsky District Court of Chelyabinsk issued a verdict against a 54-year-old city resident who had previously been convicted of a similar crime. She was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement on an especially large scale using official position) and Part 1 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of money obtained by criminal means).

As established in court, the woman worked as a chief accountant for an individual entrepreneur. From August 2023 to December 2024, taking advantage of her employer«s trust and having access to funds, she transferred money from the company»s account to accounts of her acquaintances under false pretenses. They were unaware of her illegal actions. The total amount stolen exceeded 6 million rubles. She spent part of the money on purchasing goods.

The crime came to light when the entrepreneur conducted an audit of the accounting records. It turned out that in 2021 in St. Petersburg, the woman had already been held accountable for a similar crime — she was given a suspended sentence at that time.

Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor and the presence of an unexpunged criminal record, the court imposed a sentence of 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a general-regime correctional colony and a fine of 50,000 rubles (approximately $556 at current rates). The woman was taken into custody in the courtroom. The victim«s civil claim for compensation of damages was granted.
