In the period from 13 to 19 July 2026, inspectors of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD) in the Ulyanovsk Region detained 42 drivers. All of them were either driving while intoxicated or refused to undergo a medical examination. Four of them committed a similar repeat violation.
On the weekend days from 17 to 19 July, a preventive operation «Drunk Driver» was conducted. Over the three-day raid, 24 drivers with signs of intoxication (including those who refused examination) were stopped on the region«s roads. Three of them were detained for repeated drunk driving.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate warns: a first drunk driving offense carries a license suspension of 1.5 to 2 years and a fine of 45,000 rubles ($500 at current rates). A repeated violation or repeated refusal to undergo a medical examination is classified as a criminal offense. Since 25 July 2022, liability for systematic violators without a license has been tightened. According to Part 1 of Article 264.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, punishment applies to drivers who have already been twice penalized for driving after license revocation (under Part 4 of Article 12.7 of the Administrative Offences Code). If a person convicted under this article again drives without a license, Part 2 of Article 264.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation comes into effect. Additionally, confiscation of the vehicle may be applied if the driver was its owner.
The regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate appeals to road users: do not remain indifferent to the problem of drunk driving. Report drivers behaving inadequately by calling 8 (8422) 73-55-77 or the emergency number 112.
