145 Road Accidents in Novgorod Oblast in a Week

From 13 to 19 July 2026, 145 road accidents occurred on the roads of Novgorod Oblast. In 17 accidents with injuries, one person died and 18 participants sustained injuries of varying severity.

The fatal accident occurred on 19 July in Pfarfin District. A 57-year-old moped driver lost control, drove into a ditch, and collided with a power line pole. As explained by the head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for Novgorod Oblast, Police Colonel Viktor Gavrilov: «The fatal traffic accident occurred on 19 July in Pfarfin District: a 57-year-old moped driver drove into a ditch and hit a power line pole.»

Over seven days, traffic police officers stopped 31,004 traffic violations. Of these, 29,713 were recorded by photo and video recording systems. Additionally, 27 rulings were issued for drivers failing to yield to pedestrians, 61 for window tinting not meeting technical regulations, and 44 for driving without a license.

A total of 24 drunk drivers were removed from driving, four of whom got behind the wheel while intoxicated again. Repeat cases were recorded in Veliky Novgorod, Staraya Russa, and Borovichi municipal districts. For example, on the night of 18 July in Borovichi on Gogol Street, inspectors stopped a VAZ-2114 driven by a 35-year-old man. The device showed 0.430 mg/L of alcohol in exhaled air. This driver had never obtained a driver«s license, but had been criminally charged nine times for drunk driving over ten years. Currently, the issue of initiating criminal cases under Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation against this and three other drivers is being considered.
