Kofemaniya Closes in Moscow's GUM After 14 Years

A sign at the closed Kofemaniya cafe in GUM indicates plans for a new restaurant format.
Restaurant and cafe closures in Moscow continue: now on Red Square, Kofemaniya has stopped operating after 14 years. It was located on the second floor of GUM, in the center of the second line by the fountain.
As reported by MSK1.RU correspondent, a sign at the entrance reads: «We are changing the decor and rehearsing a new restaurant format.» Representatives of the chain had already warned at the end of 2025 that they would close Kofemaniya in GUM to reopen the establishment in a new, more spacious location.
However, according to the channel «Openings and Closures of Moscow Restaurants,» the coffee shop has closed in GUM permanently.
Kofemaniya is a Moscow chain of restaurant-cafes that opened in 2001. Typically, the bill there is higher than in other similar establishments. For example, a cup of cappuccino (170 ml) costs 550 rubles (about $6 at current rates), half a liter of tea — 940 rubles (about $10), Greek salad — 1500 rubles (about $16). Often, the chain«s establishments are positioned as places for business meetings.
The wave of closures has also affected another coffee chain — Shokoladnitsa has closed two more locations: in the EgoMall shopping center and the Sviblovo shopping center in northeast Moscow. Over the past year 2025, the company closed 12% of all its locations in the city, wrote Vedomosti. This is linked to business optimization.
Also, MSK1.RU wrote that after 13 years in Moscow, the legendary shot bar «Ryumochnaya v Zyuzino» will close.
