Residents of Kazan criticized on social media a giant tower of chak-chak built near the Kazan Bowl and entered into the Russian Book of Records. They had expected it to be a solid shape, but the sweet «skyscraper» was built from bricks of the dessert.

The tower was built throughout the day on 20 July. The bricks, wrapped in plastic wrap, were placed on a 10-meter (33 ft) wooden structure. Its final weight was 4.5 metric tons (9,900 lb). The project was by the TV channel Pyatnitsa (Friday), supported by the Kazan Tourism Development Committee.
By Sunday evening everything was ready, and the record was confirmed. In a video posted on social media, people are seen running to the tower, eager to try the dessert.
Residents« opinions were divided. Some were outraged by its appearance:
«It looks like someone didn»t finish a game of Jenga.«
«Now it»s clear how and from what the pyramids in Egypt were built.«
«They announced a completely different tower. Here it»s construction, but instead of bricks and slabs, there are pallets with compressed packages of chak-chak on them. Somehow this «record» isn«t impressive.»
«One can understand they want to set a culinary record, but couldn»t it be taken apart civilly afterwards? Prepare nice packaging, make convenient distribution. Maybe even for a minimal fee, but with a good charitable purpose.«
«Our expectations are our problems.»
«I also thought it would be a shape. But in such heat it»s impossible, it would melt and lose its shape. And then you can«t give out such a product that has been sitting without plastic wrap. But as it was, they gave it to us after cutting open the packaging.»

For the record, an acclaimed confectioner and TV host Renat Agzamov specially arrived in Kazan to create the giant tower. He was assisted in setting the record by well-known colleagues from Tatarstan, food enthusiasts, and participants of TV cooking shows.
