Cucumber prices hit 1,000 rubles in Kemerovo stores

Residents of Kemerovo have noticed the cost of cucumbers, which now cost almost 400 rubles (about $4 at current rates) per kilogram. The editorial office of NGS42.RU on Tuesday, February 3, examined the counters in large chain supermarkets and found out where vegetables are most and least expensive.

Prices for cucumbers have risen not only in all stores in Kemerovo; residents of other cities in the region are writing about the price increase on social networks. Besides chain retail outlets, the cost has also increased in online grocery delivery services.

In retail outlets, sellers, when asked what the price increase is related to, just shrug.

«Yesterday they started changing the price tags, why they cost so much now — no one explained that to us either. But everyone is outraged, asking if they»re made of gold,« said a seller at Pyaterochka.

At Maria-Ra, cucumbers are now sold for 269 rubles (about $3 at current rates) per kilogram, and this is the lowest price we managed to find. At Yarchye, it«s exactly 300 rubles (about $3 at current rates).

In the Monetka chain, cucumbers are sold for 339 rubles (about $3 at current rates) per kilogram, and prices in the store in Yuzhny and in the center of Kemerovo do not differ.

At Pyaterochka, loose cucumbers cost 348 rubles (about $3 at current rates), in a package of 600 grams, which works out to about 430 rubles (about $4 at current rates) per kilogram.

In the Samokat delivery service, vegetables cost even more — up to 900 rubles (about $9 at current rates) per kg if bought individually. Short-fruited ones — 700 rubles (about $7 at current rates) per kg, medium-fruited ones — 640 rubles (about $6 at current rates) per kg.

The cheapest individual cucumbers were found at Lenta — almost 100 rubles (about $1 at current rates), medium-fruited ones — about 340 rubles (about $3 at current rates).

It is noteworthy that exactly three years ago, NGS42.RU wrote that cucumber prices sharply increased on February 3. For comparison: back then, vegetables could be purchased almost three times cheaper than now.
