Saratov woman sentenced to colony for failing to pay child support

A woman from Saratov has been sentenced to five months in a penal colony for non-payment of child support to her daughter, with debts totaling almost half a million rubles.

In the Saratov District Court, a verdict was issued in the case of a 42-year-old local woman who was found guilty of non-payment of child support. The judge sentenced her to five months in a penal colony. Details of the case were reported by the regional prosecutor«s office.

Previously, the Saratov resident had already been subjected to administrative punishment for non-payment of child support; from February 19 to June 17, 2025, she paid nothing and also provided no material assistance to her daughter.

The debt for this period amounted to 87,000 rubles (approximately $916 at current rates), and since September 2023, the total amount of child support owed by her was 453,000 rubles (approximately $4,800 at current rates). The court found the woman guilty under Part 1 of Article 157 of the Russian Criminal Code for non-payment of child support by a parent without valid reasons, in violation of a court decision on means for the maintenance of children.
