The regional Civil Registry Office (ZAGS) has published a list of the rarest names that Samara parents gave their children in 2025. Parents tried their best, so now somewhere in the region, baby boys named Vsemir, Ioann, Colt, Kosmos, Panteleimon, Savvaty, Sever, Yaromyr, and Yaropolk are gurgling, riding in strollers, and preparing to take their first steps.

Popular names such as Mikhail and Alexander continue to dominate the charts for newborn boys.

We don«t know if Rus» is in danger, but parents of girls last year were also drawn to ancient Russian roots. So, in Samara or the region, families are being delighted by the first smiles of Zabava, Slaviana, and Yara. However, among rare names for girls, there were still more Greek and Latin ones: Avgustina, Kapitolina, Lukerya, Matryona, Ofeliya, Pavla, and Fevronia.

Sofia remains the most common choice for girls, followed by Anna and Eva in the region.

The top most popular names for boys in Samara and the region are: Mikhail, Alexander, Artyom, Maxim, Matvei, Ivan, Roman, Lev, Miron, and Mark. See how many babies were named this way in 2025.

Registry statistics also show a slightly higher birth rate for boys compared to girls.

For girls in 2025, there was no intrigue either. Year after year, Sofias lead the way. Also in the top of the most popular names for girls in Samara and the region are Anna, Eva, Vasilisa, Viktoria, Varvara, Polina, Maria, Valeria, Miroslava, and Arina.

«In 273 Samara families, twins were born, and in four — triplets. Traditionally, slightly more boys were born than girls — 51% and 49% respectively,» — emphasized the regional Civil Registry Office.

The oldest mother in Samara Region in 2025 was a 51-year-old woman, and the oldest father — a 74-year-old man.
