Leaders for years: what are the most common baby names in Kuzbass?
Mikhail and Sophia have topped the lists in the region since 2022, according to the latest civil registry data.

In Kuzbass, the most popular names chosen for children at the beginning of 2026 were Misha and Sonya. The regional civil registry office«s website published current data on Saturday, January 24, showing the leading names have remained in the top five for several consecutive years.
According to the registry portal, the most popular names for newborns at the start of 2026 were Sophia, given to 1,140 girls, and Mikhail, given to 1,567 infants.
Among female names, Eva came in second with approximately 1,097 children, followed by Anna with 1,051. The list of common names also includes Varya and Maria.
The distribution for boys« names was as follows: Alexander — 1,278 children, Artyom — 1,034 babies, with Matvey and Timofey not far behind in third place.
According to the same website, 73,000 newborns were registered in the first 24 days of the year, 52% of whom were boys. For 40% of the mothers, this was their first child, while for more than 10% it was their fourth or subsequent child. During this period, 729 sets of twins were born.
