What to do in Irkutsk: rock choir, chocolate dumplings, and a run

The weekend is just around the corner, which means it«s time to come up with a plan for an enjoyable break. The editors of »IrCity« have compiled a selection of the coolest events for the upcoming weekend to make it easier for our readers to decide. We»ll tell you what to do on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Poetry Evening at Rombaboshnaya (16+)

This Friday, the Babiye Leto rombaboshnaya (a cozy venue) is hosting a poetry evening. Moreover, you can read either your own poems or those of any other author.

«Share your feelings with others, and together we»ll create an atmosphere of coziness, warmth, and heartfelt gatherings, leaving lasting memories,« says the announcement.

The evening will begin on January 30 at 19:30. Admission is free, but by prior registration.

Rock Choir (12+)

This Saturday, January 31, the project «Khor Vyshe Gor» (Choir Above the Mountains) invites you to the first rock version of its singing event. Participants are invited to perform hits by Vyacheslav Butusov, Smyslovye Gallyutsinatsii (Meaningful Hallucinations), Chicherina, and the bands Tantsy Minus (Dances Minus) and Masha i Medvedi (Masha and the Bears), that is, all the groups that participated in the soundtracks for the films «Brother» and «Brother 2».

«This will be the most sincere and truthful evening. Every voice will be important; remember, here you are the main artists! There are no rules here, only the freedom to be yourself,» says the announcement.

The rock choir will begin at 19:00 in «Gagarin-Hall». Tickets start from 800 rubles (approx. $8 at current rates).

Mass Ice Skating (6+)

On January 31, the Baikal Ice Palace is holding another session of «Baikalskaya Massovka» ice skating. For 400 rubles (approx. $4 at current rates), you can skate freely under the roof of the palace on perfect ice for 1.5 hours. The session starts at 18:30.

City Run «Five Versts» (0+)

The city-wide Saturday run «Five Versts» will take place on Saturday, January 31. The organizers have declared this day Jam Day, and invite participants after the run to drink tea with treats in the cold.

«Bring with you raspberry, strawberry, lingonberry, cranberry, or perhaps pumpkin or tomato or your other favorite jam. We»ll arrange a real festival of sunny flavors! Let«s treat each other with a spoonful of sweet summer!» says the announcement.

Participants are to gather at 08:30 on January 31 on Youth Island, and the start will begin exactly at 9:00 a.m. Participation is free.

Sculpting Chocolate Dumplings (6+)

At the Dias Gallery this weekend, confectionery masterclasses are expected. Participants are offered a choice to either make bananas in chocolate or sculpt chocolate dumplings. The first session will begin on February 1 at 12:00, and the dumpling sculpting will start at 16:00 on the same day.

«Working with chocolate is also an art! Dexterity, imagination, and something completely new,» the organizers assure.

The cost of participation is 2200 rubles (approx. $22 at current rates).
