TNT to Air New Series 'Cop-Star' with Murmansk Actor

Actor from Murmansk Dani Kiselyov has joined the cast of the new TNT series “Cop-Star.” The premiere of the comedy project will take place on August 3 at 9:30 PM.

Starring in the series are Nikita Panfilov and Anastasia Krasovskaya. Viewers will also see Victoria Bogatyreva, Dmitry Blokhin, Dani Kiselyov, Ekaterina Borisova, Veronica Vasant, and Sergey Frolov.

The director of the project is Vitaly Dudka, known for the films “Yura the Janitor” and “Neurofather.” The script was written by Sergey Nastin and Dmitry Kiryushkin.

What the series “Cop-Star” is about

The creators of the project offer a look at police work through the lens of the modern media environment. In the series, law enforcement officers become social media heroes, and investigations turn into stories followed by a large audience.

The main character is Major Andrei Kitaev, nicknamed Kit (Nikita Panfilov). He is a charismatic and sarcastic operative who is used to being in the spotlight and knows how to work the camera.

His new partner becomes Nika Yudina (Anastasia Krasovskaya) — a young police officer who unexpectedly gains popularity after a viral arrest video. Unlike Kit, she does not seek fame, but now she has to work alongside someone for whom the camera has almost become a partner.

In each episode, the heroes investigate high-profile cases, facing situations where real police work intersects with the laws of social media. Gradually, the partners learn to trust each other and see their profession in a new light.

“We wanted to combine the police with blogging”

Series director Vitaly Dudka said that the authors wanted to show the clash of two different worlds — the law enforcement system and blogging.

“We wanted to combine the police, which viewers are familiar with, with blogging — something far from the police — and talk about responsibility. If you have an audience, your words carry weight. We initially conceived the project as a dramedy, because in life drama and comedy always go hand in hand, and it was important for us to show not only the funny but also the human. In each episode, the heroes deal with cases ranging from interrogations of infogypsies and pseudo-coaches to viral scandals. We took cases that the viewer recognizes; we took everything that is talked about, that sparks discussion.”

For Nikita Panfilov, the series marks a return to the TNT channel. His character goes through a difficult journey and changes over the course of the story.

“My character illustrates a simple idea — good triumphs over evil. A person from the bottom rises to the top. It’s really cool when there are roles in which an actor can play such changes — from black to white. I hope we succeeded. And I hope people will see something in it that can push them toward change. My interest was precisely in that transition from black to white. Any internal change is very intriguing for an actor. Kit hit rock bottom, became disillusioned with everything. And then, thanks to his partners and various life situations, returns back — to humanity, to his wife, to his child.”

Anastasia Krasovskaya on the role of Nika Yudina

The actress noted that she was interested in trying her hand at the comedy genre and creating a new image.

“I was very interested in playing Nika Yudina. In «The Boy»s Word,« I played a police officer, and some might say it’s the same thing. But I always believed: the profession can be the same, but the character is different. I find it interesting to try comedy. It’s not exactly a familiar genre for me. And what’s especially interesting is the complete switch from one character to another. I constantly watch Nikita Panfilov — what he does, how he does it, and I think about what my character Nika can take from that. Once I was in her place — in terms of dreams, goals, expectations. And then — reality. And that clash seemed intriguing to me. Plus relationships with family, with a boyfriend, defining oneself, one’s profession. And, of course, the theme of stardom. What happens to you when attention suddenly falls on you? Sometimes it’s an inflated ego, sometimes it’s confusion. How does she cope with it? How does her family react? I lived through all of this.”

The premiere of the series “Cop-Star” will take place on August 3 at 9:30 PM on TNT.
