Mother of three wins million rubles in New Year lottery

A mother of three from the Volgograd region won a million rubles (about $11,100 at current rates) in a New Year lottery. As Darya says, she has participated in the draws more than once, and buying tickets for the January holidays is a friendly tradition for her.

The press service of the lottery operator Stoloto said that the winner works as a director of a company in the culture and ecotourism sector and is raising three children. She plans to spend the winnings on home repairs.

«My friend and I traditionally take part in the New Year draw and watch the live broadcast. But this time we missed it, and I checked the tickets only in the evening via the mobile app. I immediately realized I had won, but my friend was very surprised and at first didn»t believe it,« the woman said in an interview.

Besides Darya, another resident of the region won a million rubles that day, but the lottery organizers provided no information about this lucky winner.

A previous winner of the draw claimed her prize entirely by chance: her husband threw the winning ticket into the trash during a deep clean, unaware of the sum they could have lost with his wife.
