Cranberry Sherbet Love Lines Outdo Santa Barbara

If you thought you had seen every possible love drama, then you simply have not watched Cranberry Sherbet (18+). Here, the characters manage to fall in love, break up, marry, cheat, keep secrets, and break hearts so quickly that the legendary Santa Barbara can only nervously smoke on the sidelines. It is easy to get lost in the tangled web of relationships, so we have gathered the series« main love lines and explain who is romancing whom.

Plot of Cranberry Sherbet

The story begins with the family of Kıvılcım Arslan — an educated, independent, and modern woman who, after her divorce, managed to raise two daughters on her own. The younger one, Çimen, is finishing school, while the older one, Doa, is studying dentistry at university. Kıvılcım dreams of seeing her daughters succeed, but already in her first year at university, Doa becomes pregnant and marries her boyfriend.

Kıvılcım experiences a real shock when she meets the family of Fatih Ünal, her daughter«s husband — religious, wealthy, and extremely conservative people. She is sure that Doa will not be able to get along with this family, but her daughter herself is convinced that true love can overcome any differences.

Incidentally, even during the release of the first season, the creators stated that Cranberry Sherbet is based on the story of a real family. However, whose fate formed the basis of the plot was never revealed.

Doa — Fatih

Doa Korkmaz is Fatih Ünal«s first great love. They marry after an unplanned pregnancy, clash with relatives, and, on top of that, Fatih gradually begins to grow jealous and control his wife, while he himself cheats on her with Aylin. In the end, Doa loses one of the twins, and only daughter Cemre is born. After that, the couple»s relationship deteriorates completely, their marriage falls apart, and a long struggle for the child and constant attempts to win each other back begin.

After the divorce, Fatih falls in love with Görkem — a girl from a wealthy and religious family. Their romance took off rapidly, as the beauty did everything to win the guy«s heart. Pembe Ünal believes that Görkem is the ideal wife for her son, and Fatih himself, in order to forget his first love, quickly marries her. But this marriage also turns out to be unhappy: the spouses constantly clash, and Fatih again cheats on his wife. On top of that, it turns out that Fatih»s uncle, Ömer, made a serious misstep when, after learning about his illness, he left Kıvılcım and spent a night with Görkem.

For a long time, it is Doa who remains the main woman in Fatih«s life. In later seasons, the writers again try to bring them together, but this union remains extremely unstable. After the divorce, Doa begins communicating with wealthy businessman Giray, which simply drives Fatih crazy.

Their relationship gradually becomes romantic, they marry, but in the end it turns out that Giray has his own secrets, and he cheats on her just like her first husband did. Doa herself also draws closer to the father of her child from time to time. This marriage also proves short-lived — Giray is accused of fraud, and Doa files for divorce and resumes her relationship with Fatih.

Fatih«s third wife, Başak, appears toward the end of the series» fourth season. After all the dramas with women, the heir of the Ünal family enters a new marriage, but calm family happiness does not await him — Fatih catches her with another man.

Kıvılcım — Ömer

Following her daughter, Kıvılcım herself also begins a romance with a member of the Ünal family. She divorced Kayhan — the father of her daughters — long ago because of his infidelities and irresponsible behavior, and she had not thought about new relationships until she met Ömer Ünal — the younger brother of Abdullah Ünal, Fatih«s father.

The relationship between Kıvılcım and Ömer remains one of the series« central romantic storylines. Despite constant conflicts and the scheming of Leman — Ömer»s first wife — they have a wedding, break up, and keep returning to each other again and again. Leman herself also finds comfort in the arms of Kayhan — Kıvılcım«s first husband, who married her only so he would not have to work and could live well.

After divorcing Ömer, Kıvılcım meets Cemal. He gives the impression of an intelligent and caring man, so the woman reciprocates. But it soon turns out that Cemal is not at all who he claims to be. He secretly installs spyware on her phone, through which he tracks her location and follows her every step. When Kıvılcım realizes she is being followed, she ends all relations with Cemal, quits her job so she will no longer cross paths with him, and turns to Ömer for help.

They get back together and become an almost ideal couple. Kıvılcım«s pregnancy at a fairly mature age and Ömer»s decision to become a father come as a shock to everyone.

In the fourth season, Kıvılcım begins receiving attention from her colleague Tuncay, who gives her an expensive gift and invites her to dinner, which makes Ömer very jealous. An emotional closeness develops between Kıvılcım and Tuncay, and this leads to another breakup with Ömer.

On the other hand, Ömer is obsessed over by Bade, who tries to destroy his relationship with Kıvılcım, but the man does not succumb to her charms.

Abdullah and Pembe Ünal

Pembe was married off to Abdullah Ünal when she was still very young. Three children are born in the marriage — Mustafa, Fatih, and Nursema. The family idyll collapses after Abdullah falls in love with Alev, the aunt of his new daughter-in-law. The romance begins with secret meetings, flowers, and gifts, and ends in a loud scandal when Pembe learns of the affair.

Soon Alev announces that she is marrying her longtime friend Rüzgar. This news forces Abdullah to confess: for the sake of his beloved, he is ready to divorce. Pembe desperately clings to the marriage, accuses her rival of destroying the family, and sends her to prison, and then it turns out that Alev is pregnant by Apo.

After Alev is released from prison, Pembe demonstratively settles her in the Ünal mansion, hoping to remind her every day who the mistress of the house is. The humiliations quickly become tiresome to Abdullah, and he moves his beloved to a separate house. The happiness does not last long: Alev dies during childbirth. Later it turns out that the hired nurse has been giving the baby sleeping pills, and Pembe takes over caring for the girl.

Before the family can recover from this tragedy, Işıl appears in Abdullah«s life — Alev»s longtime friend, who returns from abroad and gets a job at one of the Ünal hotels. Apo and Işıl«s romance becomes the last straw — Pembe falls out of a window and dies on her 55th birthday. Not long before that, she tried to hold on to her husband, even staging a heart attack.

Immediately after the funeral, Işıl becomes the new mistress of the mansion and Abdullah«s wife. She fails to get along with his children, and the image of an ideal spouse quickly cracks: in reality, Işıl is interested in money and a comfortable life. In the finale of the third season, she suffers severe injuries, and at the hospital she is found by her former lover Leo, who has come from the Netherlands. He knows Işıl»s secret and intends to blackmail the new mistress of the Ünal house.

All of Nursema«s Admirers

The most amorous heroine unexpectedly turns out to be the modest Nursema. The eldest daughter of the Ünals does not marry for a long time, so her parents find her a suitable match themselves — the heir of a wealthy family, İbrahim. Everything changes when the girl falls in love with Alev«s colleague — Umut. He is not rich, far from religion, drinks alcohol, and performs at a nightclub, but he reciprocates Nursema»s feelings.

The lovers are not destined to be together — the girl is forcibly married off to İbrahim. On their wedding night, Nursema falls out of a window, miraculously survives, and her husband tries to cover up what happened. The girl hides in Alev«s house, where she meets Umut again. They do eventually receive a blessing to marry, but family life proves difficult: Nursema struggles to get used to living without servants and on her husband»s modest salary. Deciding to sell her paintings, she meets the wealthy and deeply religious widower Ertuğrul, who begins courting her. However, this story ends quickly — Ertuğrul leaves for London with his daughter.

Wanting to get rich, Umut gets involved with fraudsters and ends up in prison. Nursema faithfully waits for her husband, but after his release he returns a completely different person. Alienation grows between the spouses, and the situation is made worse by the attention of Rüzgar, whom Nursema meets through her work at a television channel. In the end, she realizes that her marriage to Umut was a mistake and divorces him. Rüzgar is unlucky too — Nursema rejects his sincere feelings, and he leaves the country.

Next in her life comes Imam İlhami — the ideal candidate, in Pembe«s opinion. Her mother even asks the imam herself to propose to her daughter. But Firaz stands in the way — İlhami»s new friend. Sensing his sympathy, Nursema tries to keep her distance. Everything changes on the day of İlhami and Nursema«s wedding, when during the ceremony she mistakenly calls the groom by Firaz»s name.

Firaz is the spoiled son of a domineering mother. For the sake of his beloved, he changes, and soon Nursema puts on a wedding dress again. Their union also cannot be called happy: interference from relatives, jealousy, and infidelities nearly destroy the marriage. In the fourth season, the writers planned to pair Firaz with Doa, Fatih«s ex-wife, but viewers sharply criticized this twist. In the end, the script was rewritten, leaving the characters simply friends.
