The Volgograd region has begun a mass transfer of schools to distance learning due to harsh weather conditions. The decision was made by the regional education committee.

Institutions in the following municipalities switched fully or partially to remote format:

  • Alexeyevsky district
  • Kamyshinsky district
  • Kotovsky district
  • Leninsky district
  • Nekhayevsky district
  • Staropoltavsky district
  • Uryupinsky district
  • Frolovsky district
  • the city of Volzhsky

The cause was abnormal frost and ice. According to the forecast of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM of Russia), on the night of February 4–5, the temperature could drop to –35°C (–31°F).

Remote learning has also been introduced in schools in Petrov Val, where an accident occurred the day before. A 12-year-old student fell on an icy road and sustained a fatal head injury. Doctors were unable to save the child. The exact circumstances of the death will be determined after a forensic medical examination, the regional Investigative Committee reported.
