UrFU launches new education model under presidential order

Ural Federal University is set to implement basic and specialized higher education levels under the new model.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has included Ural Federal University in a pilot project to implement an updated higher education system, as confirmed by the university«s press service.

According to the document, as early as summer 2024, UrFU will begin admitting applicants not only to bachelor«s, specialist, and master»s programs but also to two new levels: basic higher education and specialized higher education.

Acting Rector of UrFU Ilya Obabkov stated: «The university is ready to pilot the transition to the new higher education model: we have gathered a strong team, studied the experience of participants in the first stage of the project, and conducted extensive preparatory work at the institute level. We are grateful for the trust. I am confident that the university»s experience and the competencies of the teaching staff will ensure the training of personnel to address the tasks of technological sovereignty and leadership.«

The development of the domestic higher education system was initiated earlier on the president«s instruction. If initially six universities participated in the pilot project, now their number has been supplemented by another 11 universities, including UrFU.
