State-funded places increased at universities in Transbaikalia

About 2,500 state-funded places have been allocated to higher education institutions in Transbaikalia. This was reported on February 5 in the telegram channel of the regional government, citing acting Deputy Prime Minister Pavel Volkov.
«For the 2026-2027 academic years, 2,536 state-funded places have been allocated to Transbaikalia — that is 75 more compared to the previous academic year and 263 more than in 2024,» the publication quoted Volkov as saying.
The state-funded places were distributed as follows: ZabGU (Zabaikalsky State University) received 1,701 places, ChSMA (Chita State Medical Academy) — 401, ZabIZhT (Zabaikalsky Institute of Railway Transport) — 229, ZabAI (Zabaikalsky Agricultural Institute) — 190, and ChIBGU (Chita Institute of Baikal State University) — 15.
Most of the free places at universities are allocated to specialties important for the country«s technological development, according to the national project «Youth and Children».
In Transbaikalia, the main space-planning solutions for the inter-university campus «Dauria» have been approved. Its construction will begin in Chita in 2026 as part of the national project «Youth and Children». The project«s cost exceeds 20 billion rubles ($222 million at current rates), with funds to be allocated from the federal and regional budgets, as well as through the presidential Far Eastern subsidy and extra-budgetary sources. The campus, with an area of approximately 110,000 square meters, is designed to accommodate around 5,000 students.
