Number of IT students in Saratov Region rises by 25%

The number of students studying IT specialties in the Saratov Region has increased by almost a quarter compared to last year. This was announced by the head of the region, Roman Busargin, at a regular meeting with vice-governors and ministers.

According to the governor, over 10,800 people are currently studying IT profiles in the region. Training is provided by six universities and 26 colleges.

‘The number of applicants is also growing. As part of the 2025–2026 admissions campaign, about 5,200 people enrolled in IT specialties, which is 46% higher than last academic year,’ Busargin noted.

Also, over 2,500 students in the region have received an additional IT specialty for free, and 485 schoolchildren have completed free programming courses.

‘Today, this is one of the most in-demand fields, which is dynamically developing and attracting interest from young people. Highly qualified specialists are very much in demand in the labor market, so our task is to expand opportunities for our students and schoolchildren to learn in this sphere,’ emphasized the head of the region.

According to the regional ministry of digital development and communications, the average salary for Saratov IT specialists developing software exceeds 119,000 rubles (about $1,300 at current rates), and for all types of IT professions it is 100,000 rubles (about $1,100 at current rates).

In the region, 4,986 people work in this field. Over the year, salaries have increased by 8%. In total, the region has 90 large and medium-sized companies forming the IT industry market, and another 2,300 small and medium-sized businesses.
