80% of Omsk students study at state universities and institutes; in the new academic year, 17,900 people enrolled there. NGS55.RU compiled a top-10 list of the most popular areas and specialties among 2025 applicants who submitted applications for full-time bachelor«s, specialist, and master»s programs. Key findings: The top three remained unchanged, while medical professions are gradually losing ground.
Leading by a wide margin is the bachelor«s program »Pedagogical Education (with two specializations)«; last year alone, 8,667 applications were submitted. Only 609 were admitted, and 546 will study for free.
Second place belongs to «General Medicine» (specialist program): out of 4,294 applicants, only 654 became students, and only one in four received state-funded spots. Closing the top three is «Computer Science and Engineering,» which received 3,616 applications (for bachelor«s only). 241 applicants were accepted, and 87% of students will have their diplomas paid for by the federal budget.
The ranking position of the bachelor«s program »Economics« also remained unchanged compared to 2024—it still holds 8th place. However, its popularity increased by almost 1.5 times: applicants submitted 2,206 applications, and 162 were accepted. 90% of those admitted will study at their own expense.
«Pediatrics» (2,551 applications, 171 students) gave way to «Applied Computer Science» (2,639 applications, 436 admitted). «Dentistry» (2,248 applications for 144 places) was overtaken by «Management» (2,521 applications, 164 accepted). «Jurisprudence» is no longer in the top ten most in-demand specialties, but «State and Municipal Administration» has entered the ranking (1,723 applications, 84 admitted). «Information Systems and Technologies» (1,884 applications, 151 students) dropped from 7th to 9th place.
In total, 97,566 applications were submitted for full-time bachelor«s, specialist, and master»s programs at state universities—a third more than in the previous admissions campaign. The number of admitted students increased only by 5%, and that was due to fee-paying students: state-funded spots decreased by 272, while commercial spots increased by 830.
Earlier, NGS55.RU reported that in the past year, 393 participants of the special military operation and their family members were admitted to state-funded spots at Omsk universities.
