The T-Technologies group (the parent structure of T-Bank) has opened the first regional research laboratory at Ural Federal University. It will focus on solutions and tasks in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence.

The laboratory was established under an agreement on strategic partnership and cooperation in science, education, and personnel training. This is a continuation of the technology company«s strategy to develop and popularize science, form a personnel reserve in IT, and decentralize education.

«The opening of the laboratory is an important step in developing our strategic partnership with the country»s leading technology companies. It provides new opportunities for students and young researchers to work on real industrial tasks in computer science and AI, participate in research, and implement their results in practice. Such projects strengthen the university«s role as a center for training highly qualified IT personnel for Russia»s regions, help retain talented youth, and form a scientific and technological groundwork that is in demand by the economy and the country«s digital development,» commented Sergey Kortov, the university«s first vice-rector.

Students from Siberia, the Urals, and the Far East will be able to work on scientific and applied tasks of the company«s ecosystem at the university base. Industrial projects will be implemented in operational processes, while research projects will form the basis for publications and presentations at conferences.

In the laboratory, students will be able to apply the knowledge gained at the university in practice. The areas include databases, big graph analysis technology, distributed computing, algorithms for solving computationally difficult tasks. Students will also work on developing key AI technologies such as natural language processing, speech technologies, recommendation systems, computer vision, as well as scientific research in the field of AI.

The opening of the laboratory also implies that senior students and master«s students will combine their studies with work as laboratory assistants, with the best promised subsequent employment in the company.

«Talented students now have another opportunity to immerse themselves in real projects in high-demand and prestigious fields — computer science and AI, gain experience working with leading market specialists, and contribute to the development of national digital sovereignty. Close interaction between business and universities is an integral part of modern higher education. The combination of academic and industrial expertise will be a catalyst for breakthrough solutions and the development of high-tech personnel in the regions,» believes Vyacheslav Tsyganov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of T-Bank.

Under the cooperation and partnership agreement, the course «Functional Logical Programming» is being conducted at the university base. Also, university students participate in programs of the technology company«s educational platform and in competitions for scholarships from it.
