Eighth-graders barred from school holiday disco in Yekaterinburg
Security guards at a Yekaterinburg school stopped several eighth-grade girls from entering a holiday disco, according to a parent«s complaint.
Parents of several students at Yekaterinburg«s School No. 36 said their children were not allowed to attend the New Year»s disco. They believe students are being unfairly divided into «bad» and «good». Let«s figure out why this situation arose.
A reader contacted the editorial office of E1.RU and said that her eighth-grade daughter could not attend the school party, even though she studies well. However, the girl was allegedly caught smoking an e-cigarette in the school toilet earlier.
«The disco turned out not to be for all students. Many children are sitting in tears, security won«t let them past, saying the party is only for »good« children. The question is: when did we start dividing children into good and bad children?» the E1.RU reader said indignantly.
The Yekaterinburg resident considers the situation unfair because the students regularly win prizes in competitions, and the parents are «always ready to provide material assistance to the school».
In response to the complaint, the Yekaterinburg education department said that New Year«s programs are organized for all children, and the additional disco was only for those who had not violated internal rules.
«Five children with repeated violations of academic discipline were not admitted. The event was announced in September, and the criteria too. All children know about these conditions,» the city hall said.
However, according to the reader, both parents and children learned about this disco only recently.
