10th Grade Admission Now Competitive

Parents of schoolchildren are increasingly facing an alarming situation: after the ninth grade, their child is refused admission to the tenth. Complaints are multiplying, but schools are not breaking any rules. For several years now, educational institutions have had the right to independently form specialized tenth-grade classes on a competitive basis, admitting only students with a high level of preparation and sufficient scores on the OGE (Basic State Exam).

For many families, this comes as a surprise. Until the last moment, it seems that «there is still time» and that they can catch up on knowledge in the 8th–9th grades. But in practice, it turns out that if the foundation is not laid in advance, there are almost no chances of passing the selection. This is especially true for specialized streams with an emphasis on mathematics.

At the same time, the university admission system is also changing. More and more leading universities and in-demand specialties are focusing not only on the Unified State Exam (EGE) but also on olympiads. 3rd grade — developmental mathematics. A new direction for the school. Classes are held once a week on a weekend day, and are aimed at developing logic, attention, mathematical thinking, and interest in the subject;

5th grade — mathematics with a strengthened foundation. The course helps review key topics, fill gaps, and prepare for a more serious workload;

7th grade — foundation for advanced mathematics. Work on understanding the material, systematizing knowledge, and preparation for a specialized subject.

In the second half of the school year, the online school «Invariant» deliberately focuses not on accelerating the complexity of the program, but on high-quality revision and building the foundation. This allows students to confidently enter advanced studies starting in September.
