St. Petersburg Students Spend More on Food and Online Shopping
According to Bank Saint Petersburg, in the first semester of 2025, students spent an average of 12.5 thousand rubles per month (approximately $125 at current rates). The main expenses were on groceries, dining out, and online shopping.

In the period from September to December 2025, the average monthly spending on student cards in St. Petersburg amounted to 12,500 rubles (approximately $125 at current rates). For the same period in 2024, this figure was 600 rubles lower — 11,900 rubles (approximately $119).
The average transaction check reached 604 rubles (approximately $6). Analysts noted that students actively use cashless payments. When withdrawing cash, the average monthly amount was 2,916 rubles (approximately $29).
The largest share of turnover — 38% — was taken by food stores with an average check of 530 rubles (approximately $5). In second place were cafes, canteens, and other public catering points, which accounted for 20% of spending with an average check of 437 rubles (approximately $4).
Online shops and marketplaces also made it into the top expenses. The average check in this category increased to 1,068 rubles (approximately $11) compared to 615 rubles (approximately $6) in 2024.
In addition, monthly spending on public transport averaged 192 rubles (approximately $2), and on entertainment — 1,616 rubles (approximately $16).
In all major categories, the average check increased compared to the first semester of 2024.
