The regional office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) in Volgograd, on instruction from the central FAS office, has begun checking prices on bread and bakery products. The control will affect both producers and sellers of these products.

The regional FAS office stated: «By instruction from the central FAS office, the department will study the justification of wholesale prices set by regional market participants for bread and bakery products made from wheat and rye-wheat flour. The financial and economic indicators of both bread producers and their sales organizations for 2025 will be analyzed. If grounds exist, the department will take antimonopoly measures.»

The check is driven by the social significance of bread. At the same time, prices on vegetables, for example tomatoes and cucumbers, are not planned to be studied. The next target will be monitoring the cost of chicken eggs.

The Volgograd FAS office has previously conducted similar activities. In autumn 2025, the department investigated a case of violation of antimonopoly legislation by 50 carriers in Volzhsky due to a sharp increase in tariffs. In spring of that year, following a complaint, an auction with a starting price of nearly 94 million rubles (approx. $1,044,400) for the lease of photo and video enforcement systems for paid parking was cancelled. In 2023, antimonopoly officials checked the rise in chicken meat prices, deeming it insignificant.
