The Yasachnaya River in the Verkhnekolymsky District of Yakutia has begun to be protected. The new rules are needed to protect the water source from pollution. The order was signed by the republic’s Minister of Ecology, Yevgeny Perfilyev.
Now, near the water intake, it is forbidden to build structures not related to its operation, plant tall trees, discharge wastewater, swim, wash laundry, water livestock, or engage in any activity that could degrade water quality.
The State Unitary Enterprise ZhKKh Yakutii (Housing and Communal Services of Yakutia), which operates the water intake, will monitor compliance with the regime and carry out necessary environmental protection measures. If the establishment of the sanitary zone restricts the rights of landowners, the enterprise is obliged to compensate them for losses in cases provided for by law.
The Kolyma River in the same district has also been taken under protection. Several areas in the settlement of Zyryanka have been included in the sanitary zone — buoys and other prohibition signs are planned to be installed on the river.
