Samara waste operator to take on Volga islands

Samara tourist bases will improve the organization of waste removal. This was reported by regional authorities after inspections of the islands of Podzhabny, Golodny, Rozhdestvensky, and others.

«I tasked the joint-stock company «Ekologiya» to check for contracts among legal entities operating on the Volga islands. The municipality needs to assess the volume of waste accumulation and, if necessary, supplement the sites with containers. We need transparent waste removal accounting and clear schedules for each summer season. In the near future, we will adjust the location scheme for waste collection taking into account the navigation channel,» said the region«s Minister of Natural Resources, Artem Efimov.

During the inspection on the Samara islands, 22 tourist bases were found without waste removal contracts. In the near future, the regional operator JSC «Ekologiya» will conclude contracts with all entrepreneurs and draw up a waste removal schedule.

Additionally, additional waste collection sites and loading points will be placed on the island recreation bases. At the request of the tourist base owners, the waste removal season will be extended — from the start of navigation to its end.

At the same time, the Samara region has one less landfill. This is «Preobrazhenka», which ceased operations at the beginning of 2026.
