«We’re sitting with closed windows, from 9 p.m. and all night the stench is nauseating. A chemical smell, it’s horrible. We’ll all die soon!!!» exclaims a Ryazan woman.

City residents note the smell of phenol, burning, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in the atmospheric air.

«It stank all evening yesterday, all night, and the smell hasn’t gone away now. This is insane! Only to leave the city,» fumes a resident of Pesochnaya Street.

«More than 12 hours we’ve been in a gas chamber!» — a message from Novoselov Street.

«What genocide of the Ryazan population, poisoning all day, and now they continue at night. It’s hot outside, but we have to sleep with closed windows,» write from Bolshaya Street.

In the Ryazan Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, in response to a request from YA62.RU, they said that according to statistical reporting, the volume of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere in the Ryazan region has significantly decreased. Compared to the previous period, it decreased by almost 18,000 tons, or 22.05%.

At the same time, according to the supervisory body, in 2026 the number of citizen complaints related to violations of legislation in the field of atmospheric air protection also decreased both in Ryazan and in other municipalities of the region.

At the same time, prosecutorial inspections revealed a number of violations in the activities of individual enterprises. In particular, some economic entities did not conduct mandatory inventory of pollutant emission sources, and also did not develop plans to reduce emissions during periods of unfavorable meteorological conditions. For all identified facts, the prosecutor’s office took measures of prosecutorial response. The prosecutor’s office did not specify which specific enterprises are being referred to.

Updated: The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Ryazan region reported that on the evening of July 20, a stationary observation post did identify several exceedances of the maximum permissible concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the atmospheric air.
