Rosprirodnadzor finds 12 violations at aeration station

Employees of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadzor) conducted another unscheduled inspection at the Nizhny Novgorod Aeration Station (NNAS) and recorded new environmental violations. The United Municipal Operator (UMO) was issued a compliance order, the regional office of the agency reported.

Last year, inspectors already visited the NNAS and identified numerous violations. At that time, management was held administratively liable and ordered to rectify the issues. However, the latest inspection showed that the requirements of the supervisory authority were not fully met. «However, as the latest inspection showed, the legal requirements of the supervisory authority were not fully fulfilled. JSC »UMO« continues to systematically evade its direct duties to comply with environmental protection requirements,» Rosprirodnadzor noted.

In total, specialists found 12 unresolved violations. Among them are low efficiency of treatment facilities, excess discharge standards for manganese, copper, and petroleum products in wastewater samples. The enterprise continues to have a negative impact on the Volga River.

Regarding air pollution, an excess of the hydrogen sulfide standard was recorded at one emission source by 9.5 times. Violations in waste management were also identified: garbage from sewer screens was stored on unequipped sites.

Furthermore, the enterprise has been placing sludge on sludge maps (Class 4 hazard waste) for more than 11 months without a license. The sludge maps themselves are not included in the State Register of Waste Disposal Facilities.

The UMO has not yet paid the compensation for negative environmental impact for 2024. The funds are being recovered from the company through court. The municipal operator was issued a new compliance order to eliminate the violations.
