Access routes to the Opera and Ballet Theater, which has been housed on a new stage for several years, have been flooded for almost a week, according to social media users, but today a real collapse occurred. Artists had to get to rehearsal via detours and along the protruding foundation of the building, as other approaches were flooded. Today an operetta is scheduled, so what awaits audiences before the performance?

Getting to the theater turned out to be really difficult. The exit from the underpass at 2nd Dachnaya (a street in Saratov) is flooded, causing the steps to be covered with ice. The road was also a slushy mess mixed with water. However, by 3:00 PM there was no water near the theater itself. The approaches to the stairs were cleared, and several trucks and tractors were working nearby, removing wet snow. Utility workers began excavations opposite the theater.
The theater itself noted that in the first half of the day there were indeed problems with access to the building, but now the utility services are eliminating the accident.
«We are waiting for audiences and working as usual, the show will go on,» stated the staff.
On the way back to the underpass, I meet a woman and help her jump over a puddle.
— This is the second time this winter it’s flooded so badly you can’t pass, and water practically stands here year-round. In summer there’s also a sewage smell.
— Is the path of Saratov residents to the beautiful difficult?
— Only the beautiful saves us from reality, — the woman jokes.
Let us recall that the reconstruction of the historic stage of the Opera and Ballet Theater began in 2020. Initially, the theater troupe moved to a new stage in the former factory Palace of Culture, which had an accident, for only two years. As a result, the reconstruction became a long-term construction project, and the completion deadlines for the building are currently unknown.
