Dmitry Podnozov, ‘Secrets of the Investigation’ star, dies
A date for the farewell ceremony had not been announced.
Dmitry Podnozov, a Russian theater and film actor and artistic director of the St. Petersburg Drama Theater Osobnyak, died at the age of 64. The cause of death was lung cancer with metastases to the brain, the theater reported.
In a message on its Telegram channel, the theater said: «Yesterday Dmitry Podnozov was gone. Our friend, mentor, colleague, our family. The theater’s artistic director. <…> Over the past six months, Dmitry fought cancer. It was a very hard path, but he held on and remained strong to the very end.»
Dmitry Podnozov died on 20 July 2026. Reports that the actor had been diagnosed with cancer emerged in December 2025. The disease developed rapidly, and colleagues noted that his condition was worsening quickly. The date of the farewell ceremony was to be announced later.
In June, the actor was admitted to intensive care. The actor’s loved ones announced a fundraising drive, director Vladimir Munkuev said on his social media.
Dmitry Podnozov was known for the films and TV series The Prophet. The Story of Alexander Pushkin, The Major, Dukhless 2, Secrets of the Investigation, The Icebreaker, and Chernobyl. One of his most notable screen roles was Nikolai Ivanovich in the drama Heart of the World. The film received the Grand Prix at the Kinotavr film festival and the prize of the Guild of Film Scholars and Film Critics, and Podnozov was nominated for the Nika Award for Best Supporting Actor.
